Neither article includes documentation on how to detect or identify
modified hardware, unfortunately.  Also, while hardware modification seems
to be indicated, it's not explicitly stated, and software modification
seems highly more likely.  Therefore, a clean software reinstall, possibly
down to reimaging firmware from OEM channels, sounds like sufficient steps
to act as countermeasures
