Hello everybody,

On behalf of Sarantaporo.gr Community Network coreteam i would like to
submit our proposal for organising the next battlemesh v9 or a mini
battlemesh instead of the main event, in our area in central Greece. For
those who don't know us already, see more on the following links:

   - Trailer. Building Communities of Commons. A documentary on Networks in
   Sarantaporo area <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5VQR2TVKl8> (english
   subtitles available)
   - Sarantaporo.gr Documentary Promo Video
   <https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=2&v=m3bi6CGq7os> (english subtitles
   available)

*Proposed location:* Livadi village
<http://wind.sarantaporo.gr/?page=nodes&node=96>, (Google map link
<https://www.google.gr/maps/place/Livadi+400+02/@40.1252122,22.157352,1247m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x135839341ecf046d:0x400bd2ce2b99d20!6m1!1e1?hl=en>
)

*Pros*:
- A beautifull and vivid mountainous village very near Sarantaporo
<http://wind.sarantaporo.gr/?page=nodes&node=68>village and Olympous
mountain, with hotels and guest houses that could host ~ 100 people at low
prices if we reserve 2-3 months earlier,
- A nice school hall available and suitable for the event, plus extra rooms
at school for workshops, meetings, presentations etc.
- A great new community is forming lately in Livadi. They are going to
become part of our community network very soon and are already excited to
host the Battlemesh in their village. (by the way this is the community we
greeted online during the Battlemesh results' presentation in Slovenia for
those who remember)
- Many traditional restaurants with tasty food prepared with locally
produced meat, vegetables etc. You all might be aware that Greek cousine is
worthed
- We plan to have some organised meals, we intend to try and even arrange
some for free or really cheap
- Social events will be a must during the whole Battlemesh
- Symmetrical internet connection ~ 100Mbps by the Sarantaporo.gr Community
Network

*Cons*: Not very easily reachable by public transportation, which means
that we have to arrange a bus and collect everyone from the nearest town
Larisa
<https://www.google.gr/maps/place/Larissa/@39.6310087,22.4241462,10158m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x1358885c595d47a1:0x400bd2ce2b99c30!6m1!1e1?hl=en>,
which can be reached very easiliy from Athens airport by car, bus or train,
from Thesaloniki airpport by car, bus or train and from Volos airport by
car, bus or train and then again return back to Larisa altogether. This
means that we must altogether make synchronized prior arangements
*Event type:* Main event or mini Battlemesh
*Possible dates*: 2-8 May 2016 (just after Orthodox Easter holidays) or
11-17 July 2016 or 18-24 July 2016

In case of a miniBattlemesh event, instead of the usual activites, we might
try to do something usefull for the area trying to run agricultural
applications over the community network or extend the network in new area
for instance.

Furthermore, the Thessaly Technical Institute
<http://www.teilar.gr/index_en.php> located in Larisa and the Greek
Free/Open Source Software Society (GFOSS)
<https://gfoss.ellak.gr/greek-freeopen-source-software-society-gfoss/> have
already expressed their interest to support the event's organisation.

We are really enthousiastic about organising this event and would be a
great pleasuse to have you again here in Greece.

Friendly,
George Klissiaris
