it would be nice if anything good that happened at battlemesh could reach a
wider audience.

IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine

*Call for Articles for October 2016 Special Issue*

*Mobile Edge Computing and Internet of Things for Consumers*

Associate Editors: *Soumya Kanti Datta & Peter Corcoran*

The current activities in Internet of Things (IoT) are focused on
architectures & protocols for efficient interconnection of heterogeneous
things, infrastructure deployment and creation of value-added services. On
the other hand, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a novel paradigm that
extends cloud computing and services to the edge of the network. Due to
dense geographical distribution, proximity to end-users, support for high
mobility and open platform, MEC can support applications and services with
reduced latency and improved QoS. Thus MEC is becoming an important enabler
of consumer centric IoT applications and services that demand real-time
operations. Standard development organizations like ETSI have also
recognized the benefits IoT & MEC can bring to the consumers. Potential
applications for MEC enabled IoT include smart mobility, emergency
response, smart cities and environmental monitoring. This special issue
solicits articles on MEC and IoT and provides a platform for engineers,
researchers, industrial experts and other stakeholders to address several
related challenges.

*Suitable topics include:*

Current and future trends

Resource allocation and management challenges

Distributed mobile applications utilizing MEC and IoT

Performance evaluation of IoT and MEC test beds

Consumer centric IoT applications and services using MEC platforms

M2M data processing, management and storage at MEC platforms

Virtualization of MEC functionalities

Security, privacy and trust

Standards for IoT and MEC

Articles related to test bed deployment, current & future trend analysis,
performance evaluation and next-generation technologies are particularly
welcome. While some emphasis on the CE related aspects of these systems is
required, articles dealing with interdisciplinary aspects of connected
devices, M2M communications, IoT and MEC will also be considered. Articles
placing an emphasis on the societal and economic impacts of these
technologies are particularly welcome. Tutorials on all CE related
technologies or systems that are relevant to this new CE ecosystem are also
encouraged.

*Author Guidelines*

The authors are required to submit full papers describing original
research. All submissions should be written in English with a maximum paper
length of six pages (10-point font) in a standard IEEE two-column format -
http://goo.gl/1yszpb.

*Submission instructions:*

The manuscript submission is handled through
https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cemag. The authors must include a cover
note mentioning that the paper is for MEC special issue.

*Submission Deadlines:*

Deadline for submission – 15th May, 2016

Reviews due (accept/reject notification) – 15th June, 2016

Revised draft submission for accepted papers – 15th July, 2016

Publication – October, 2016
