Hi everyone,

As you may know, we're really close to the release of the first stable
version of the CONFINE Controller and Node software (a.k.a. the
"Confined" milestone). We've been working very hard to keep backwards
compatibility for as long as possible, but we've come to a point where a
backwards-incompatible upgrade of the Community-Lab Controller is needed
to ease the long term usability and maintainability of the software.

To this end we first need to perform a massive upgrade of nodes to the
latest firmware version, so we'll be progressively and steadily (and I
hope that also quickly) migrating groups of nodes to test the new
firmware in real world conditions.

We've also worked hard to allow node upgrade to keep disk data of
slivers so that only a sliver restart is needed. However there is a
fair diversity of firmware versions in Community-Lab nodes and problems
may happen, thus you're strongly encouraged to **remotely backup any
valuable data you have in your slivers**.

Node admins (technicians) in the different groups are encouraged to use
this thread to warn slice admins (researchers) about the imminence of
upgrades to nodes in their group, to allow the backup of relevant
sliver data.

Slice admins of the potentially affected slivers may have a look at the
list of slivers at the bottom of the slice page in the Community-Lab
Controller web UI to know on which nodes they are running and which
group they belong to. This thread or [Community-Lab's ticket system][1]
may be used to report any problems on particular nodes and groups.

Thanks for your support and patience,
