[Battlemesh] Using 11s as link layer

Hello.
Recently someone told me it was possible to use 802.11s without the
routing layer, thus as a link layer protocol such as ADHOC or
Infrastructure.

It can be done by setting the parameter mesh forwarding to 0 as follows:

iw mesh0 set mesh_param mesh_fwding=0

Did someone make some research on that? Is it worth to use 11s as a link
layer protocol and then run a layer 3 routing protocol (such as OLSR or
bmx6) on top of it?

I would like to see a comparison between ADHOC and 11s as link layers in
a MANET.

IMO, some advantages of using 11s are:

1. Better support for some drivers
2. It is possible to create multiple 11s VAP in a single WiFi radio (up
to 8)

Would be nice to see the performance in a >20 nodes mesh network.

Any information regarding this topic is very welcome.

Cheers.
