The main problem I see with using 2 times 40 MHz instead of 80 MHz is
that most Wifi cards lack channel specific filters.

If you transmit at any channel, your wifi card is producing noise on
ALL other channels in the same band. Not at the transmission level,
but often enough to disrupt a receiver near the transmitter.
