In openwrt it is true there is no iproute2 by default, but the command ip with
most common option is offered by busybox, and enabled by default, so you
shouldn't experience problems using the ip command on openwrt.
Altought some people install iproute2 on openwrt because have more features
respect of the one offered by busybox, but you don't need to do that for most
common usages
