# CONFINE Node System 2016-11-16 released
Hi everyone,
After nearly a year and a half after the last stable release of the
CONFINE Node System (CNS), I'm proud to announce the availability of a
new stable release, Master 2016-11-16.
## Upgrade fixes
Although the new release comes with some nice bonuses that I'll explain
later, it's mainly a minor release which fixes some issues in the
upgrade process. It also makes it simpler by relying on capturing
important files to the overlay on each shutdown. As a result, upgrading
nodes is much safer than before.
## Virtio support
Besides the usual ``i586`` and ``i686`` image flavors, a new ``virtio``
flavor has been added which extends the ``i686`` image with support for
paravirtualized devices like network cards, disks, console and memory
balloon. This allows running virtual nodes that work much more
efficiently.
## New partitioning layout
To ease the support of assorted disk configurations that facilitate
simpler node upgrades (for instance in VMs), upgraded nodes use a
slightly different disk partitioning layout where the
``confine-overlay`` and ``confine-home`` labels are used instead of
hardwired partition names and numbers. Existing overlay and home
partitions are automatically labeled during node upgrade, so you
shouldn't worry about the change.
## Upgrading
The new images are available as usual in the [node media server][1] and
in the Community-Lab Controller. To upgrade your node to the default
``i686`` flavour from a node running the previous stable version, just
use ``confine.remote-upgrade``. For other flavors or custom images, use
``confine.sysupgrade``. For other cases, please check the wiki for
[node upgrade documentation][2].

Please upgrade your nodes and report back any issues!
Cheers,
