With joy and sorrow, I communicate this experience from Mexico.

4n4mh00 has been reporting the situation of the people in Zacatepec, and
Puebla, under pressure from the local mafia to silence their struggle
for freedom, food sovereignty, and against the life-threatening advances
of global corporations, report.

Recently, a young 11yo boy was shot dead by a gum ball, and the police
dismantled two community radios a few days later, that are involved with
the resistance to the "Proyecto Integral Morelos", that aims to setup a
gas pipeline between Tlaxcala-Puebla-Morelos, in the south-center state
of Morelos, Mexico.

In the middle of this crisis, the resistance shines with its
life-affirming actions: one of them being to reinforce the community
radios and use free software to make it easier to develop, maintain, and
share experiences for operating liberating community radios.

This, to me, is a strong example of the ethical power of software
freedom, a life-affirming, community-strengthening approach to
technology, that aligns with the needs of humans to control their own lives.

4n4nh00 also reports an interesting balance between the need for
encryption to preserve privacy, and the need for the power-to-tell.
Indeed, "social software" is not only a mean to share media, but also to
reach populations (GNU Radio, Dyne:Bolic...), and help them organize
their proper narratives better: social free software is free software to
make community.

I urge hackers in Mexico to join and help them in their embrace of free
software.
